What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Getting to know our audience
We may occasionally ask you personal questions. We would like to get to know you, so that we can better serve you. For example, we might ask you what inspires you, what are your favorite colors, and what are your favorite ocean organisms. Answering these questions is completely voluntary, and it will help us to produce content that is better suited to your needs and desires.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Contact forms
If you send us a message using our contact page, we collect your name and email address. If you request to subscribe to the Reef Surge Blog, we will use your name and email address to keep you posted on our ocean stories and to market our ocean art products to you.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We use the Google Analytics Dashboard for WP (plugin) to track the success of this website. It allows us to see how visitors are interacting with Joshuajwittmer.com. Payment and Shipping
We may collect your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, telephone number, and payment information to process any orders you may place with us.
Who we share your data with
We won’t sell or trade your information.
We only share your personal information as necessary to complete your orders, keep you posted on our ocean stories, and market our ocean art products to you. We will not sell or trade your information to other parties.
Payment Gateways
We offer a choice between two payment gateways for purchases: Paypal, and Stripe.
If you choose “Pay with Paypal”, then your billing and shipping information are collected and handled by Paypal in accordance with their privacy policy which can be found here.
If you choose “Pay with Card”, then our website collects your billing and shipping information, but the charges are processed by Stripe on our behalf. Although our website is initiating and managing the transactions, funds are not flowing though our website itself. If you choose this payment gateway, you will have a Stripe account, but you will rely on us to help manage it. We must share your billing information with Stripe if you choose this payment option because Stripe has a legal obligation to know who you are. Stripe will handle your personal information in accordance with their privacy policy which can be found here.
Drop Shipping
When you place an order with us, it will be shipped directly from the print lab that manufactures your item. We must share your shipping address and telephone number with the print lab so they can deliver the artwork to your door. Our print labs will not use your information for marketing purposes and will not sell or trade your information to any third parties.
Email Marketing
When you sign up for the Reef Surge Blog, your name and email address will be shared with Mailchimp, a service that helps us to manage our email marketing campaigns. Mailchimp handles your personal information in accordance with their privacy policy which can be found here under section 3. Privacy for Contacts.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
If you sign up for the Reef Surge Blog, we will keep your name and email address indefinitely, unless you notify us that you would like to unsubscribe from our list.
We keep contact form entries for six months, and analytics records for one year. We keep customer purchase records indefinitely so that we can track the value of our artwork, and validate the copyright authenticity of our art products.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, have signed up for our mailing list, have purchased items, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
