Bumphead parrotfish are huge! At 4 1/2 feet long and 100 lbs, they are the biggest parrotfish in the world. Parrotfishes’ teeth are fused to form a hard beak. This one has a cleaner shrimp of the genus Cuapetes inside it’s beak!
Bumphead parrotfish have been known to use their blunt foreheads to break apart live coral. They eat live coral as well as fleshy algae. In 2012, scientists documented another use for this hard, bony brow.
